In this inaugural episode of “Ask the ControlUp Platform Anything,” I, Jed Ayers, CEO of ControlUp, proudly introduce an exciting new initiative to harness the power of our vast data assets. I am joined by Eugene, one of our earliest team members, whose deep understanding of the ControlUp platform and its data makes him the ideal partner for this endeavor. The premise of this series is simple yet powerful: we want to provide our community with data-driven insights and answer pressing questions based on the extensive information we manage across nearly 6 million endpoints.
Our first question delves into the impact of COVID-19 on existing virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments. Eugene explains that the goal of this series is to analyze trends without the influence of subjective opinions, drawing from a diverse customer base across various industries. The insights we share will always reflect anonymized data to ensure privacy while showcasing industry-wide trends. This approach allows us to discuss the evolution of VDI since 2019, examining how environments changed through the pandemic and where they currently stand.
As we dissect the data, Eugene highlights a significant increase in VDI environments, peaking in mid-2021 at approximately 200% of pre-pandemic levels. This discovery is critical, demonstrating that while organizations rapidly adopted remote work technology during the pandemic, many have sustained or even increased their use of VDI as we transition back to a more stable work environment. Throughout our discussion, we remain committed to transparency and rigor, ensuring that our analyses reflect genuine trends rather than company performance metrics.
In addition to exploring VDI trends, we look at work-from-home arrangements, revealing compelling synchronicities between remote work data and VDI usage. Eugene presents data illustrating how work-from-home days rose dramatically during the pandemic and have since plateaued, mirroring the VDI trend. This fascinating correlation prompts us to invite listener engagement, encouraging our audience to submit their questions and comments. We deeply value community input, enriching our dialogue and ensuring we address the most relevant issues facing our users.
As the episode concludes, we emphasize our commitment to ongoing engagement with our audience, expressing enthusiasm for the insights we hope to gather from listeners. This interactive element is integral to the series, and we encourage all participants to contribute their thoughts, critiques, and further inquiries. With this launch, we aim not only to inform but also to foster a collaborative conversation around the critical role of data in shaping the future of our work environments.
