A user asked if it was possible to use ControlUp to monitor a cloud environment, especially VMware on GPC. It can be done by using GCVE and a workaround with a datacollector, or by using a dedicated jumpbox in Azure VMware Solution. Control Up SaaS can also be used to monitor both GCP environments and on-prem, with all configuration and historical data stored on ControlUp’s backend.

Dear all,
What about Control Up monitoring a cloud environment, especially VMware env on GPC please ?
Is it possible with On-premises solution ?
I believe with GCVE you can get access to vCenter just like on-prem. It might need a workaround using a datacollector but in theory it should be possible (not sure if you have all permissions in there though)
see https://cloud.google.com/vmware-engine/docs/vmware-platform/howto-access-management
This is different from Azure VMware SOlution where you need a dedicated temp jumpbox to connect to vCenter and hardly have any permissions
Thank you @member 🙂
I’ll read this and try.
Do you know if Control Up SaaS version can monitor as well GCP environment and on-prem (still VMware) ?
Our on-prem version doesn’t have other integrations than the hybrid cloud one does. The big difference is only where config and historical data is stored and new features come to hybrid first as well.
hybrid still has the same monitors but both monitor & console pull theiur config data from our backend instead of cop and the monitors send historical data to our cloud platform and not iop.
and for neither we care where the vCenter or Horizon is hosted as long as we can setup the api connection to the connection servers and vCenter it’s fine.
Great, thank you very much. 🙂
