A user asked if it was possible to customize a field in an Insights Dashboard by requesting information from an external server. A ControlUp employee confirmed that it was technically possible but not supported out of the box and suggested reaching out to a CSM or account rep for further discussion. It was also noted that the underlying platform of IOP is Splunk and it may be possible to achieve this using its functionality. However, the user’s company and the customer need to clearly define their needs before deciding on a technical solution.

Hello all,
Would it be possible to customize an Insights Dashboard field (IOP) by sending a request to an external server ?
I have windows users who connect to VD using Horizon, I would like to add a column in the session activity dashboard in which I will display the company they belong to. This link (username – company) is stored in an external service and should be retrieved using call APIs.
Moreover, is it also possible to add and display the Active Directory groups of the users in the sessions activity dashboard ?
Thank you for your help.
As Dennis the ControlUp employee
Is this technically possible? Yes.
Is this something IOP supports out of the box? No.
Would this be something we might want to do via something like professional services? Maybe. Reach out to your CSM and/or account rep.
As my personal opinion
IOP uses Splunk as its underlying platform. You can more than likely do this using the functionality of the platform. But you’d have to be willing to dig into this.
Is adding the data to IOP a hard requirement?
I’ve done this type of work in the opposite direction:
• Grab data from historical reporting, either via IOP or the cloud version
• Enrich the data via external data sources, like AD group membership
Maybe that is an option?
Thanks for your reply @member 🙂
We are starting discussions with my customer. According to what is possible, what they really want, how hard and long could be the development of a new dashboard or the data extraction to enrich external data sources, my company and I will be able to suggest some options. Thank you very much.
And because I like Control Up and I really want to push its usage (to business, to managers, etc…), I would like to do it as much as possible in an Insight dashboard and then automate it.
But we have to clearly define our customer needs before deciding a technical solution.
