A user experienced an issue where their external monitor wouldn’t turn off at night, even with the "Night Light" turned off. Suggestions were given to check "powercfg/requests" to see what process was requesting the display to stay on, and to use the same command line to override the request. It was mentioned that the suggestions were for Windows and not Ubuntu.

Curious if anyone else has seen this issue before. I run Ubuntu on my personal laptop with an external monitor connected. During the day (like 9am – 7pm), the power saving will turn the screens off as it should. However, at night, they stay on constantly. If I go into settings and mess with the power options, it seems to help for a short period of time, but then it starts happening again after a period of time (possibly after a reboot, but haven’t confirmed that). Anyone have thoughts on what might be causing this issue?
I should also mention, “Night Light” is turned off.
powercfg /requests
Might tell you what process is requesting the display to stay on. For example Spotify is asking the system not to go in standby mode.
You can use the same command line to override requests.
Great! Thanks. It’s just odd to me that it is fine during the day, but at night it won’t shut them off.
Oh you said Ubuntu. None of the above will work for that since it is all Windows 😛
