How to create an alert that will only fire on machines in a certain group and tag using ControlUp Solve \ Edge DX

Posted on February 10, 2023

A user was trying to set an alert in ControlUp Solve \ Edge DX based on a device group or tag, and needed to use the ‘devices’ index for this, but didn’t think it would work as the platform is not part of this index. @member was asked to offer input until the user could take a deeper look, but it ended up working, with all alerts only being for Linux endpoints. The user is looking forward to the next version of ControlUp Solve \ Edge DX.

Read the entire ‘Creating Alerts in ControlUp Solve \ Edge DX for Device Group or Tag’ thread below:

Trying to create an alert in Solve\EdgeDX and want it to only fire on machines in a certain group or with a certain tag. Is that possible?

I think I have to set a filter for name is….. and try and match the device names to the ones I want alerts on.

Right now Brian this would depend on the index you are creating the alert from and whether that index contained the devices’s groups / tags.

We’re set to overhaul alerts soon and you’ll be able to do things like that then.

Which index are you running your alert from?

I’m trying to alert when a network latency result is >40ms. I think that’s __device_info_

So I think the index you are referring to is actually _devices – use that index for the alert. That index contains latency (I think). That index should also contain the device group so you can use that as a condition too.

THis is what i have configured and am getting email alerts. I do see this event list under a Windows endpoint though.

I am getting email alerts from a windows box for this alert. Any thoughts?

i see. this is not a filter for Linux endpoints:

trying this:

I don’t believe platform is part of that index, so this won’t work. I’m traveling this week so my ability to look is limited. @member are you able to offer any input here until I can take a deeper look?

It seems to be working now. I’ll let you know.

I can see the data in the device_status for my Linux (platform=3)

as Jon mentioned, in the cuyrrent released versiuon we do NOT have the Device Group or Tags available in this alerts, butthe Alerts functionality is getting a big overhaul that will increase its capabilities

So far so good. All alerts have only been for Linux endpoints. A few more days and I’ll know for sure. I look forward to the next version. I’m hearing great things about 8.8 too.
