Chad asked about the ControlUp products Realtime DX, Edge DX, and Scoutbees. These products are used to manage physical and virtual desktops respectively, as well as diagnose issues, automate tasks, measure UC&C engagements, and test SaaS apps. With a 21 day trial of the products, Chad can gain a better understanding of the features. For additional assistance, Chad is encouraged to engage with the Pre-sales team or contact the Support team. Links to helpful resources such as a demo video and getting started guide were shared.

Hi, i’m new to ControlUp and this community. The company I work for heard ControlUp might be a good solution for us, and my boss tasked me to investigate. I have a few questions.
I see you have three products, realtime dx, edge dx, and scountbees. Please explain what each does and when I want to use each. Do I need all three or just one or two of them? We use Citrix and have a combination of Dell thin clients and physical devices that are on-prem and remote. We also have many SaaS apps now, such as Salesforce, and I see ControlUp helps with this too. Of course, we use Teams.
Please give me an overview here. I want to avoid talking with a salesperson and learn first.
Thank you,
Hi Chad first of all welcome to this Slack. In very general lines Real-Time is for anything virtual, Edge DX is for everything physical and Scoutbees tests and alerts for availability. There are millions of nuances as you can have vm’s in edge dx and physical machines in Real-Time. Both RT and Edge DX also have automation, alerting and historical data possibilities while we for example can also show how the wifi was at the endpoint of the users when they where only connected to Citrix or Horizon. To be honest I would recommend setting up a small test environment in a lab or play with our testdrive environment because I think we could fill entire books with all the options we have Testdrive – ControlUp
Hey, as Wouter says, there’s a lot of nuances, but let me try to summarize it for you.
ControlUp has 2 distinct offerings:
• ControlUp for Physical Endpoints & Apps
• ControlUp for Virtual Desktops & DaaS
With the first offering centered around features and tools for IT teams responsible for improving the user/digital experience for users using desktops/laptops (win, mac, linux) and running local, SaaS and UC&C (Teams, Zoom) apps from those devices.
The second offering is centered around features and tools for IT teams responsible for improving the user/digital experience for users using virtual desktops and apps, either on-prem (VDI) or in the cloud (DaaS).
ControlUp for Physical Endpoints & Apps includes the following products & features:
• Edge DX
• Remote Assist & Control
• Reporting
• Qualitative Employee Sentiment
• Unified Communications Monitoring
• Synthethic testing for SaaS Apps (Scoutbees)

ControlUp for Virtual Desktops & DaaS includes the following products & features:

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions. If you want to schedule a demo meeting with one of our Sales Engineers, let me know
Thank you. This gives me something to digest.
Does the trial software contain everything I would need to get started? Do I need more? What is your advice on how to get started setting up a test environment? Is there a getting started guide you recommend?
Thank you
We have got a getting started part in our knowledge base Getting Started (controlup.com) and to be honest our pre-sales engineers rock and know the best way to get you into all the small details during a POC/trial.
If you would like to follow our admin course I bet that @member or @member can sneak you into one of the courses. Thanks, Wouter. I will try this myself for a while. It is how I learn best, and I have some time. I will refer to the knowledge base you mentioned. Thank you for the help.
Thank you
if you need anything feel free to ask in the channel for that product, if in doubt feel free to reach out to me.
If you are more of a video person: https://vimeo.com/726473596
And for impatient people: https://vimeo.com/726473658@member feel free to drop by the academy channel for any questions you may have on the training material and we have a course on getting deployed and running
Thank you, Sivan.
Is there a link to the "getting deployed and running" source?
Joel, thank you. The videos you shared will be a great starting point.https://support.controlup.com/docs/getting-started-with-controlup-hybrid-cloud
Hi @member! Another helpful walkthrough to get the initial console set up is this blog, it may be easier to follow than the above link Landon shared: https://www.controlup.com/resources/blog/entry/from-the-field-episode-ii-the-poc-awakens/
fIf you have any questions, or need assistance
If you have any questions, feel free to email support@controlup.com if you get stuck.
As a non ControlUp employee I highly recommend to get in touch with Pre Sales like @member mentioned.
You will get an demonstration of what the products are for.
It will save you a ton of time.
After the demo by Pre Sales you can use the 21 day trial to discover the products on your own…
Thats my 2 Cents
And you are always welcome to send in a request to us in Support. We are always happy to answer your questions or help out if you get stuck. 👍
