The discussion considered what options are available for providing access to Insights data for third-party users without access to the ControlUp console. While registering in the console is necessary, uploading a CSV file with UPNs can be done with the Login Setup feature in 8.7. Insights will be deprecated soon and, as some customer’s security policies can remove accounts if they are not used after a certain amount of time, there is the option of creating a bogus user with an email distribution. There are no limitations on the number of users in ControlUp itself, though some Microsoft licenses may be consumed based on a single AD account.

Hi just a quick question is it still possible to give access to insights without giving access to the controlup console. not tried since all the AD integration?
100% possible! I will get a screenshot to show you, one moment
With 8.7 you can using Login Setup.
He beat me to it lol
π
still confused on how that works π and the registration proceess
let me play
Ah, so the users still need to register themselves in the console, though you can import them through solve now which I think should allow them to not have to register, @member you think the above would work? If they don’t want to register in the console and only insights?
I’m pretty sure they would still need a shadow account.
So basically you still need to upload the CSV into solve.
Yea, that is what I was thinking as well
tthis would for third party users that would not have access to the console
no ad accounts
on the customer site
they need access to the historical data for project planing
Everything is based on UPNs so you must use an AD account.
thats what i thought
Can you create a guest AD user?
And Insights will be deprecated soon so I wouldn’t spend too much time on it.
massive issue i have brought on the AD itegration since it was introduced
support can do it at the back end just no option for us to do it
it would be good to have a built in ‘Guest’ feature in Solve/Insights…
will see if I can talk to someone about it π
π
also the ability to add just emails for alerts that is a pain not having that ability. adding distribution list for example
been asking for that since solve was released π
@member you can use the SMTP option to send alerts to distribution lists
not an option on some sites.
I’m sure your aware of how to create a bogus user with an email distribution as a work around. I know, work around… π
yeah u could do that but even bogus accounts can have a license implication
There are no limitations on the number of users.
not for controlup
some Microsoft licenses that a customer used before were reported as consumed once you created an AD account. the capacity to logon only consumed the license (this was based on TS and Office 365. also some customers have security policies to remove accounts if they are not used in x number of days
I wasn’t aware of the MSFT license based on a simple AD account. Hmm… Anyway, I mention and acknowledge its a work around but doable.
