ControlUp 8.8 will feature a service monitoring capability, as well as increased visibility and monitor health. Currently, services can be monitored using the real-time console, or by running a scheduled script. Previous versions have had issues with alerting, however in 8.7.0.655 stability has been greatly improved and weekly reboots have aided in this.

Anyone got a way to monitor for a running Service? Specifically Windows update Service, WUAUSERV
Coming soon in 8.8
For now you would need to monitor the process..
Landon was a bit faster than I was today ๐
speedy
This can only be monitored currently using the real time console?
you can check the processes view in Solve, triggers are configured from the RTC indeed
is run a scheduled script to check the services i want
if the stoped i start as part of the script and if fails to send me a mail
Thats what we do for many customers. Schedule a script to check services and write an error with our own event ID to trigger on.
i just want plan with scheduled task. did us controlup at all
I was also a way to check the health of the environment I controlup was don’t or alerts just not working (regular issue with monitors)
Monitor health and visibility is also right around the corner.

In 8.8, you’ll define services that you’d like to monitor and then configure triggers on when a service goes from Running to Stopped and attach scripts like restarting it etc.
Or send rest api etc
Huh you guys wrote it
but I will always do it outside of controlup as well. Had to many escalation were controlup fails and we hare in deep crap with customers
Fails at what?
alerts not sending mails would be one example
not until the monitor has been rebooted
It works in general. A case where they’re not working can be caused by several causes and needs to be looked at.
99% of the time it works but the 1% were alerts are not just sending has nearly cust us customers so we had to build in checks outside of controlup
Still worth troubleshooting
i have with support but never got any solution. was very strange. Rebooting the monitor solves it nearly all the time,
we have had this issue even from tyhe early days when u were on calls with me
we kinda at this stage have classed it as a point of failure and put in additions around to mitigate against it
So in summary, service monitoring is coming to ControlUp in 8.8. ๐
yep i can’t wait for it ๐ i been asking for for very long time
@member always willing to take this offline and discuss what we have done and why if you want
@member I agree with the Monitor service in the past has just stopped doing what it should until the server was restarted. However, 8.7.0.655 seems to have greatly improved the monitor stability as I have not had that issue since upgrading. It happened pretty regularly before, like wouldn’t last more than about 2 days. They said they have been working on Monitor stability and for my use, it shows.
@member good to hear it’s more stable. We do weekly reboots as one of our steps for stability. Since doing that it’s been much better so I would see what you are seeing in 8.7. So I am glad it’s much better ๐
