A user noticed that their machine was at 95% CPU, but the total of individual processes running only summed to 1%. It was suggested to check system sessions, and the user concluded that when adding those to the equation, the numbers almost matched. Controlup shows all processes no matter how many are running in the same session. The CPU value for machines also includes system processes which are always running, so the machine value will always be slightly higher.

Hello, I have the case (see below) where the machine is at 95% CPU but the sum of the processes (the rest below is only 12 process with 1% CPU) doesn’t sum up to 95%.
Are we missing some processes ?
Thanks in advance, cheers
Sometimes the issue is located in the "Systems Sessions", have you checked them?
Indeed this is the case, I have now activated the system processes and it almost sums up.
I was confused because I could see system processes without the option activated like "SentinelOne" processes.
Fun fact : I remember at the begining I opened a case because I could see two sessions per VDI and I thought this was a ghost session or a display bug. I was recommended by support to delete my ControlUp profile… which "worked" because I had not set the option permanently… 😂
sometimes a process can be opened many times (For example Anti Virus scan) you can see the activity in Resource manager but Controlup only shows the one process
i had fun with that on one siteNot sure if I got you @member 100% but ControlUp shows all processes, nevertheless how many are open!?
If there are two chrome.exe processes, you will see them!?
Its depending in which Session the processes are running. When enabling the "Show System Sessions" via "Display" you will have full visibility…
i the issue i was dealing with it didm’t
was long time agoIt doesn’t add up exactly most of the time :
Hi Jean-Charles – The CPU value for the Machine also includes System processes, which are still running even when no session is active. So the machine value will always be at least slightly higher.
