A user asked for PowerShell scripts for hard drive cleanup. There was no success in trying to use PowerShell for full HDD cleanup – it was not performant. As an alternative, batch scripts were developed and they work much faster.

Our org gave up on trying to use PowerShell for full HDD cleanup. It’s fine if you want to delete certain folders (C:\Windows Temp or C:\Windows\servicing\LCU) but our team and another vendor we work with both tried to make something better and more generalized with PowerShell. It’s just not performant. We ended up developing some nice batch scripts and that works much faster.
I’d love to be proven wrong, but we were unable to figure it out.
