Dennis created a script to help admins monitor and track the capacity and usage of their supported environment with ControlUp’s Real-Time DX. An accompanying graphic helps explain the capacity of monitors, which ControlUp’s online calculator (https://calc.controlup.com/) can help to determine. Dennis also shared a blog post (https://www.controlup.com/resources/blog/entry/controlup-monitor-cluster-sizing/) providing more information about monitor sizing.

Alright. Since it is cool script Friday. Attached is a script that’ll show you individual monitor and site capacity and usage.
You can either run it on a monitor directly. Or if you create a script action out of it, you can run it from the console.
it requires 8.6.5 as it uses invoke-cuquery. If you want to use it in the console, make sure it runs under a domain user. As invoke-cuquery needs to run as a domain user (can’t run as system).
To that end… perhaps it’s worth noting why Dennis’ script is actually so cool/useful, by taking a step back and explaining this whole monitor site capacity side of things a bit. I made this little graphic a while back (this is not an official ControlUp-approved graphic… @member heh heh sorry! 😅) to help explain what this whole capacity thing is… because the number is not the number of “things” connected.
When you do your initial sizing discussion/review, to figure out how many monitors you need to monitor your full environment with Real-time DX, oftentimes, we’ll send you to our online calculator site (https://calc.controlup.com/). That site is basically doing the calculations alluded to in the attached graphic.
Anyway, back to why anyone should care about Dennis’s script…Currently, we here at ControlUp don’t really do a great job in the console UI when it comes to showcasing what the remaining capacity is, per monitor or per site. We’re not proud of this shortcoming, but we acknowledge that it exists, and better yet, it’s certainly something we’re planning to improve in the future (most likely in a super sexy Solve UI…. 😏), but in the meantime, this magical #CoolScriptFriday Script that @member has shared will enable you to peak under the hood and actually have visibility into your monitor and site capacity AND usage!
Take the power into your own hands! Power to the people!
Alright, thanks for coming to my ted talk.
And if you’re interested in reading even more about Monitor Sizing, this blog post from @member is worth a read also https://www.controlup.com/resources/blog/entry/controlup-monitor-cluster-sizing/
Thanks, Dennis. I get asked this question all the time! This will definitely help admins keep an eye on their environment. Grateful!
Late to the party, but this is awesome stuff.
