Trouble Targeting AD User Groups for the ControlUp Sentiment Survey Setup: Need Advice

Posted on April 25, 2023

Good day,

I am trying to setup a user sentiment survey for our customer. I encounter an issue while targeting a specific AD user group, I cant seem to target any AD groups. Due to legacy issues our users and computers are hosted in separated domains and are connected through a domain trust. We created a user group in the same domain as the computers and nested a group in the other domain so we can ad users. I cant seem to add any of the user groups defined in both domains. Is there a certain naming convention? I have tried adding the domain name in front of the OU of the corresponding (for example RFH\SG-RFH-controlup-usersurvey). Any advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Arjan

The surveys don’t check the ad themselves. What they look at is group membership of users that are logging on to the machines so you need to create a user group first and make someone member of that group and have them log in.

Ah ok, thanks alot! I will try that.

if you want to check what’s being read you can go into the mswin_logons index and check the ds_user_groups column

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately the mentioned columns is completely empty in my database

How are the machines ad joined? @member we don’t need End User Activity to be enabled for the ad groups do we?

Through SCCM deployment

I’m just gonna check now if Windows defender isnt blocking any specific traffic from the sip agent to the tenant. Are they Azure AD joined or oldskool ad?

They are also AAD joined and intune enrolled. A Hybrid setup.

afaik we are still working on AAD compatability

The strange thing is that I had it working before. A couple of test runs seem to be running great. The same groups cant be selected at all.

Should we use an AD group that is not synced to AAD?

when a user logs in the agent polls a domain controller for domain membership. If this should still be possible please open a support ticket for investigation. You can also change the log level on one of the machines and check the windows eventlog for errors
