A user was having difficulty with a Linux device that was not displaying a user, even though the user was logged in. After various troubleshooting requests from @member, it appears that the issue may have been caused by Wayland. The solution was to switch back to X11 by editing the custom.conf file in nano and uncommenting the WaylandEnable=false line. After reboot, the device should be displaying the username.

Finally got the linux device online again , but now its not showing a user , even though the users is logged in as we are on a teams call
Morning Eugene… I’m seeing the same behaviour on my test machine… I’m going to report it on our internal Slack channel but please create a support ticket mentioning this thread as a reference.
Thank you
and will do
Seems that the site was down
you should have received an email since we moved from Salesforce to Zendesk our ticketing system…
But easiest way to open a ticket is to send an email to support@controlup.com

Morning gentlemen!
The notifications went out ONLY to customers with open cases and we redirected a few pages. I will say that NOW the easiest way is to login/create your support account https://help.controlup.com/
We’re less than 24 hours into the cutover period but once we’re ready (ironing the few wrinkles) we’ll be announcing the change to all customers. Plus we’ll promote the new enhancements ๐
Eugene let me know if you need help
Merci @member
Hello @member
Thank you for the reply , for now i just want to know that a call is logged ๐ so that the team can have a look at the linux user not showing
Thank you
I will go ahead and create a case for you now. You’ll receive the notification soon
Thank you Tony
@member could you please send us the output of the folowing command:
sudo /usr/bin/who
Sure will do , will be in the morning, currently 1 AM in SA
Yeah I know ๐ It’s midnight here ๐
We found what may be the root cause: Wayland… On my lab if I switch to X11, it shows the username. The PM confirmed me Wayland was not (yet) supported.
To switch back to X11:
sudo nano /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
And uncomment the line
WaylandEnable=false
Reboot and it’s done
