Working on a Trigger to Monitor Citrix Server Thresholds

Posted on July 26, 2023

A user was working on a trigger to alert them once a threshold of Citrix Servers in a folder was broken. It was suggested to use folder metrics, with the user confirming they understood that an unchecked state meant it would need to exit and re-enter that state. They were also advised to restart their monitors and check values with the console before building a trigger.

Read the entire ‘Working on a Trigger to Monitor Citrix Server Thresholds’ thread below:

Hi All!

Currently I am working on a trigger that will alert me once we have broken a set threshold of Citrix Servers running in a folder. (ex. In a folder called Citrix Server 001 we have 60 Citrix Servers, I would like to be notified when machine number 56 is turned on and ready for use). I have been playing around with the options for Folder and even Machine record types but can’t seem to find one that fits this use well. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

You can use folder metrics for this.

Use these folder metrics in an advanced trigger and scope it for the folder in question.

Perfect, I will try that out! Thank you!

If I am editing a current trigger, and it is currently in the state I defined will I get a notification right away? Or will I need to wait for the state to be broken again before getting a notification?

Depends on this.

That is currently unchecked as in the picture.

The idea here is when a monitor connects to a resource and checks its value for whatever, if the state is already equal to the TO and this is checked you’d get a followup. If not the metric would have to reset and go back into the TO condition.

Okay so unchecked means it would need to exit the state, and re-enter that state. Understood

Okay, so I set the "To this state" as "CVAD % Available Machines is greater than 92%". Currently the selected folder has 57/60 servers ready and active, and I checked the box mentioned above. However, am not receiving a notification?

Restart your monitors so they "rediscover" the items.

Also have you verified what the console shows for the folder using live data?

I have not, how would I be able to check that

Right click and focus on the DG.

Just as a tip, always verify what the columns show for the data before building a trigger for it. It helps to know what the values should look like in the filter criteria.
